Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect in my first counseling session?
Your first session is called an Intake Session. This first meeting is an opportunity to get to know each other and discuss your goals for therapy. We'll talk about what brings you in, what challenges you're facing, gather some background and health information, and discuss how we can work together to make positive changes. We will also go over paperwork, and ensure you are aware of the ins and outs of starting counseling. Not to mention, answer any questions you have.
How long do sessions last?
A standard counseling “hour” is 50 minutes. This allows us to have a full, focused session while leaving time for the therapist to:
Prepare for your upcoming session
Reflect on your progress and plan next steps
Complete any necessary documentation
Fifty minutes also gives you time to process what we’ve covered before jumping back into your day, making the experience more intentional and less rushed.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, we accept Aetna, Cigna, Kaiser Permanente, Kaiser Medicare, and United Healthcare. If you're unsure whether your plan is covered, feel free to contact GCC, and we will assist with insurance verification.
Do you provide Superbills for out-of-network benefits for insurance?
Yes. If you’d like to use your out-of-network benefits, I can provide you with a “superbill.” A superbill is a special receipt that includes all the details your insurance company usually asks for when considering reimbursement.
Here are a few things to know:
A superbill makes it possible for you to ask your insurance company for reimbursement, but it does not guarantee they will cover the cost.
You will submit the superbill directly to your insurance company.
Payment is still due at the time of your session. If your insurance reimburses you, they’ll send that money directly to you.
Every plan is different, so it’s a good idea to call your insurance provider ahead of time to ask about out-of-network mental health benefits.
Helpful Questions to ask your Insurance if looking to be reimbursed through a Superbill:
When you call your insurance provider, here’s a simple script you can use:
“Hello, I’m planning to see a therapist who is an out-of-network provider. I’d like to know if my plan offers out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health services.
What percentage of the session fee is reimbursed?
Do I need to meet an out-of-network deductible first? If yes, how much is it and how much have I already met?
How do I submit a superbill, and where do I send it?
How long does reimbursement usually take?”
How do I book an appointment?
The first step is to set up a consultation by clicking on the Contact tab. Once we chat through what you are looking for in a therapist, and learn more about your needs, we can then schedule an initial Intake Session to get started with counseling.
Are sessions confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of our work together. Your privacy and trust are of utmost importance, and we adhere to all professional and legal guidelines regarding confidentiality.
